The history of the restaurant Kupferkessel in Zell am See

Robert Schandelbauer inherited the property in No. 18 Brucker Bundesstraße from his mother. In the years 1938 to 1945 he built a petrol station with a workshop and the house. He had up to 15 employees. Robert specialized in repairs of agricultural machinery and therefore he was exempt from military service. After his retirement in 1962, his daughter Erika took over the family business.

In 1963 she leased the Glocknerhaus and in 1964 the Zellerhof to gain gastronomic experience. In 1966 she opened a coffe shop beside the gas station and she also offered small meals. Erika Kreml was not satisfied with the coffee shop and wanted to reakise her own ideas. She started a total conversion and in January 1979, the whole house was reconstructed. Beautiful Italian marble columns and a spacious, elegant and tastefully decorated restaurant arose. In the show kitchen wonderful steaks are prepared on a charcoal grill.

The wine list is also exquisite and it´s not surprising that the guests in the “Kupferkessel” feel comfortable. A further guarantee for success is the well trained service team, which has been led by the active and skilled son Edwin since 1980. Native and international guests appreciate the French and Italian cuisine and they enjoy the atmosphere in the restaurant. Afterall, the “Kupferkessel” is certainly an enrichment to the gastronomic landscape of Zell am See.
